One month, day for day, after the loss of their VOR 70 boat SFS (ex Abu Dhabi, launched in 2011), totally destroyed by fire on the 17th of January last while it was ashore for winter work, Lionel Péan and his SFS Team start the 2015 season with ambition, aboard a new sailing boat named SFS II, a VOR 70 that previously won fame under the colours of Puma, finishing 3rd in the Volvo Ocean race in 2012.
The previous boat, also a VOR 70, was built in 2011 using the most advanced technology of the time, with calculation margins such that the boat could accumulate miles without breaking, as much in terms of structure as in terms of rigging. It was also an ocean-going monohull, 70 feet (21.33 m) in length, developed in 2011 for the 2012 Volvo Ocean Race (crewed round-the-world race with stopovers). A VOR 70 ex Abu Dhabi entered in the 2012 Volvo Ocean Race, SFS bore the signature of the famous firm Farr Yacht Design. It was built at the Persico yard in Bergamo, Italy and required 49,000 hours of work and more than 7,000 plans and drawings.
